"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.

A number of reasons. You built an identity as kEat0n. kEat0n became more than a username with crass capitalisation. I would associate the name with the work and the journals. keatonjohnson is nothing but a name to me. It takes time to build a new identity. Also, the anonymity of kEat0n as opposed to what I'm guessing is your real name makes the work and the fella doing the work more interesting. Finally kEat0n just rolls of the tongue better.
